Initiatives
Sector Council Partnerships
The Trades and Apprenticeship project will bring stakeholders together with leading groups (i.e., construction, oil and gas, the automotive repair and mining sectors councils) to facilitate a planning process that will lead to opportunities for Aboriginal people in each of the targeted sectors.
By adopting a sectoral approach, the Council’s Trades and Apprenticeship Project will bring Aboriginal Human Resource Development Agreement Holders (AHRDAs) together with sector councils to leverage resources such as career awareness materials and labour market products, tools and services. Combining these resources will result in increased jobs and accelerated entry and retention in trades’ labour markets.
Colleges Partnerships
The Aboriginal Human Resource Council of Canada (AHRC) will work closely with the college network to strengthen partnerships that seek new and better ways to provide relevant training for Aboriginal people and respond to industry’s demand for skilled trades and apprenticeship workers.
New Information Resources
New labour market data and research specific to trades and apprenticeship is also planned as part of the project. Stakeholders will be able to use this information to accelerate career and employment strategies in trades and apprenticeship programs.
Linking People and Ideas
The Trades and Apprenticeship Project will provide regional and national links to stakeholders across Canada. Initiatives will increase skills, learning and employment opportunities and open doors for stakeholders to work together on local, regional and national projects and initiatives.
